The part I came for
I still don’t quite understand the Toad hype. It’s fine, but nothing distinctly special to my palate. Give me the choice between Toad and GMO, and I’d take GMO every time. The burgers, on the other hand, I love. So Toad Burger had my attention. My earlier note was even less diplomatic: better than Toad. Don’t @ me.
The nose was burger-forward, while the smoke leaned more Toad, with a hint of garlic and onion. It rolled up nicely, and every smoke on this half-ounce was fantastic. Big nugs, too.
I think I paid less than $90 out the door for the half-ounce. Green Dragon’s flower has impressed me consistently since I first tried it about ten years ago, and this bag did nothing to change that.
I wasn’t immediately jonesing for another bag when I finished it. I would pick it up again, though. I don’t need to become a Toad evangelist to appreciate how well this one smoked.
A little more context
Letmeseewhatusmokin reviewed an Astor Club × Green Dragon Toad Burger and likewise praised the smoke, describing savory gas and garlic. We don’t entirely agree on which side leads: that review hears more Toad in the nose, while mine was burger-forward. The name and producer overlap; the batch and collaboration presentation aren’t matched. [T1]
There’s a much less flattering account on r/BayAreaEnts. One buyer described Green Dragon Toad Burger as hay-smelling and hay-tasting. Replies speculate about age and curing, but don’t establish the cause. That report belongs beside the praise, not underneath it. These are individual experiences, not a vote on every bag. [T2]
The pedigree needs care too. The published review says Toad Venom × Donny Burger; California Leaf’s reporting calls Toad Burger a Hash Burger cross. Those aren’t interchangeable parent names. I’m not treating either as a verified lineage for my bag. [T1] [T3]
My ten-year impression is personal history, not a claim that every Green Dragon batch is consistent. Outside accounts do not establish the cause of their differences.
Sources & review notes
The main review comes from my own posts and follow-up notes. Outside descriptions stay in the separately labeled section above; they aren’t additional tasting notes from me.
My original posts
Outside reading
- [T1] Toad Burger — Astor Club × Green Dragon
Same named producer/cultivar; collaboration and batch not matched.
Reviewer describes an Astor Club recommendation and thanks both brands. A payment/gift disclosure wasn’t captured.
- [T2] Toad Burger Green Dragon
Same producer and cultivar name; different purchase, batch unknown.
Negative firsthand report. Commenters’ storage/curing explanations are unverified.
- [T3] Hot Toad Summer
Background reporting, not a review of my bag.
Names Hash Burger as a parent, conflicting with the Donny Burger description in T1.
Outside reading checked in October 2026. Individual reviews are anecdotal; neither a shared strain name nor a shared producer proves a matching batch. No outside photography is reused.
